Richard was born in Ohio and studied at the Cleveland Museum of Art and the California Institute of the Arts. He received extensive training in classical oil painting from Vincent Ferrara and has applied this training to create innovative multi-layered, richly textured luminous paintings. He is trained in theater and music as well as painting and brings a multifaceted sensibility to his creations. His strong interest in Eastern and Western cultures are evident in the ceremonial and meditative aspects of his work, whose mediums include acrylic and oil on canvas and wood, pastel and ink on paper.
